FIELD OF REMEMBRANCE TO OPEN FOR THREE DAYS

The Isle of Wight’s Carisbrooke Castle will open its Field of Remembrance for three days next month.

Local residents and holidaymakers in Isle of Wight accommodation can pay their respects on Thursday November 8th, Saturday November 10th and Sunday November 11th, reported iwcp.co.uk. Donations can be made to the Royal British Legion by purchasing crosses at the castle.

The field was established by the Lord-Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight, Major General Martin White, as a place where residents can pay their respects around the time of Remembrance Sunday, explained the news provider.

On the Thursday, the field will be open from 10:00 – 13:00, while weekend opening hours are from 10:00 – 16:00. The space was officially opened in 2010; for the rest of the year the castle’s museum is the main focus for visitors.

The castle was recently mentioned by thisistotalessex.co.uk in a travel piece on the island, with the reporter noting that his children “loved” walking along the battlements, but also learned about how Medieval soldiers lived, including how heavy their chainmail was.

Some other spots visited by the travel writer were Sealife Wildlife Encounter, Blackgang Chine, Robin Hill Adventure Park and Brading Roman Villa; Carisbrooke Castle represented his family’s “historical fix” during the trip
