Those on Isle of Wight breaks or looking to entertain their children this half term will be pleased to know that the Isle of Wight Steam Railway is opening free over the next week.
The trains at Havenstreet Station won’t be running, however you will still be able to take a look at the selection of vintage trains, carriages and wagons on display at the station.
In particular, the facility has recently acquired a classic 1877-built E1 class locomotive, which used to run on the Island from 1930s until 1960.
There will also be a number of workshops on offer, as well as a chance to meet some birds of prey – which visits from the Haven Falconry next door, as well as an adventuring playground, a bookshop and a tearoom.
According to iwsteamrailway.co.uk, trains run at the facility daily from June to early October and most days in March, April and May.
The railway also features a museum which houses historical artefacts such as station signs, loco nameplates, tickets and signalling equipment.
The free events at the station will be running all this week from Monday 18th – Friday 22nd February with the facility open everyday from 10am-4pm.
