‘CYCLE THE WIGHT’ FESTIVAL TO PAY HOMAGE TO OLYMPIAN WIGGINS

Riders at this years ‘Cycle The Wight’ festival will get the chance to pay tribute to Olympian Gold medalist and Tour de France champion Bradley Wiggins, iwight.com reports.

Organisers of the cycling race, which is popular amongst those on Isle Of Wight breaks, have asked participants to don ‘Wiggo-style’ side burns in homage of the champion cyclist.

The event, which takes place this Saturday (September 29), has even been dubbed ‘Wiggo the Wight’ this year, according to councillor Claire Critchison who organizes the event. However she confessed the London cyclist will probably be ‘too busy’ to make the event.

Ms Critichison also told iwcp.co.uk that she is glad cycling has been boosted by the 2012 London Games, saying: “The Olympic Games were an amazing event and has helped boost the profile of sports such as cycling even further.”

She also said that the achievements of Team GB, and in particular Bradley Wiggins, have resulted in an increase in participants at the festival this year, so it was ‘only right’ that their success was acknowledged.

The event sees cyclists travelling around different routes of varying lengths. It is just one of the events of the cycling festival, which was launched at St. James’ Square in Newport last Saturday (September 22).
