ISLE OF WIGHT STATION SET FOR NEW MANNEQUINS

Brading railway station on the Isle of Wight looks set to receive a host of new mannequins to form part of its display.

According to bbc.co.uk, town councillor Mary Collis has asked local shops to donate old dummies, which will then be dressed up to add to the ones already found at the station, which is on the main line between Ryde and Shanklin.

Cllr Collis said: “People say the dummies make the station. Some people don’t even realise they’re dummies and they talk to them.”

People who have been on Isle of Wight holidays may have noticed some of the existing mannequins, which include Albert – a ‘man’ sat reading a newspaper on the station platform with a suitcase and umbrella next to him. The local politician wants to give Albert a friend and put a dummy in the signal box.

Brading railway station, a Grade-II listed building first opened in 1864, already features a railway heritage centre and the addition of more mannequins could add to its popularity as a spot for local tourism.

According to iwcp.co.uk, Isle of Wight eco-fashion label Rapanui will dress the dummies once they have been collected. Cllr Collis noted that another mannequin at the site is the porter, who is dressed up in vintage clothing.
